8 ounces mushrooms, sliced (such as cremini or button)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Steak
Bring to Room Temperature:
Remove the steaks from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This helps them cook evenly.
Season:
Generously season both sides of the steaks with salt and pepper.
Step 2: Cook the Steak
Heat the Skillet:
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil or butter over medium-high heat until hot.
Add the Steaks:
Place the seasoned steaks in the skillet. Avoid crowding the pan if you’re using multiple steaks.
Sear:
Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare. Adjust the time based on your desired doneness (use a meat thermometer if necessary).
Rest:
Once cooked, remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest on a plate for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.
Step 3: Make the Mushroom Sauce
Add Butter and Mushrooms:
In the same skillet, add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and the sliced mushrooms. Sauté over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mushrooms are golden brown and tender.
Add Garlic:
Stir in 2 cloves of minced garlic and cook for another minute until aromatic.
Deglaze the Pan:
Pour in 1 cup of beef broth and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet with a wooden spoon.
Simmer:
Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing it to reduce slightly.
Add Cream:
Stir in 1/2 cup of heavy cream and let the sauce simmer for another 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 4: Serve
Plate the Dish:
Slice the rested steaks and place them on individual plates.
Add Sauce:
Generously spoon the mushroom sauce over the sliced steak.
Garnish:
Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley on top for a pop of color and flavor.
Enjoy:
Serve immediately with your choice of sides, such as mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
